Boy has this been a tough year for this boomer…

Old People ChickenPox

Just when I thought the year was going to finally end with peace for this old boomer I received a long dormant reminder of the power of chickenpox.  See they don’t call it chickenpox in old people they call it shingles.

When you first come in contact with shingles you think it is just another rash from some bug or weed that you shouldn’t have touched.  So what do you do?

You naturally apply an antibiotic cream to it.  In the next day or 2 you notice that it has gotten bigger and is now covering a larger area.  In my case it started in my hair.  I felt a lump of sorts that was extremely sore to the touch and itched at the same time.  As my shingles began to spread it began covering my left forehead and eyes.  This is when I decided that I needed to have a more serious approach to fixing the rash.

Sooo… I called my primary care doctors office to see if they could see me that day.  After a little run around with the appointment scheduler I finally was able to speak with the doctor who quickly told me that I probably had shingles.  How in the world could I get shingles I asked?  Lately I have been working with my computer and not really around people hardly at all.

He politely asked me to come in as soon as I could get there.  That kind of scared me so I jumped in the car and off I went.

It took about 2 minutes with him before he confirmed the shingles diagnosis.  I was still speechless as I listened to him discuss the characteristics, medications I would need to take and what causes it.

Shingles only comes to OLD People like me… if you have ever had chickenpox as a child then you too could get shingles.  The same virus lays dormant in your system for years.  In my case for 54 years and then decides to become active with stress.  So at the old age of 60 I am now fighting chickenpox all over again but this time in my hair and face.

Medication prescribed by my doctor is a pain medication and an anti virus for 7 days.  I am currently on day 3 and it seems to be helping a little but it is a very slow process.

Irritation makes it worse so you really have to keep yourself in a calm state. Have you ever tried to do that?  Well that is almost as tough as anything I have ever done.  Okay so the computer is acting up and freezing…. oh that’s OK no problem.  Yeah right.

And of course this could not wait until I am finished the huge computer project I am working on.. No it has to come now!  When I have a lot of stress going on normally.

Now that you have listened to this old girl moan and groan about her shingles you can be thankful that you aren’t this old and do not have such stupid problems.
